Welcome to "Chronically Skeptical", the former
on-line resource specifically intended for those with chronic (and other) illnesses and disabilities who prefer their social support network free of the mystical, the magical, the misinformed, the unproven and the dangerously deluded.
We are now closed. It turns out that either there wasn't quite the demand for a site of this nature that it needed to reach the critical mass of users to make it feel like a community, or that I did something wrong with promotion/management of the site that was putting people off. Anyhoo, I've decided that the effort of constantly fending off spammers and hackers is greater than the traffic levels merit. I'm going to disable new posts, but leave the content up until the next time someone/something manages to being hack the site, at which point it will close. Sorry.
If you would like to interact with other skeptically minded people with chronic illnesses, you could do worse than check out the Skeptical Spoonies Facebook group.
On-line forums of this nature, particularly those for sufferers of chronic or difficult-to-cure conditions, are all too often riddled with practitioners of, and advocates for, homeopathy, reiki, chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, faith-healing and a whole host of other treatments that have either been proven not to work, or not proven to work. On occasion, this has lead to those who dare to question the efficacy of some snake-oil or other being banned from the forum and denied their support network. We aim to avoid this, by building a community of those of a more skeptical nature, where nothing is unquestionable, and scientific evidence and practice are held dear.
If you suffer from a medical condition, are disabled, or if you care for or about someone who does or is, and you want to talk to others in a similar situation in a friendly environment where only science is "sacred", then why not sign up to the forums
and introduce yourself.
